Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, has pledged to combat hate speech and misinformation on the platform. As advertisers continue to flee.
In a memo to employees on Sunday, Yaccarino said that the company is “committed to fighting hate speech and misinformation.” and that it will soon begin to release data on its efforts to do so.
“We’re going to show the data,” Yaccarino wrote. “We’re going to show you what we’re doing, and we’re going to show you the results.”
Yaccarino’s memo comes as X has faced increasing pressure from advertisers to do more to combat hate speech and misinformation. In recent weeks, several major advertisers, including Apple, Disney, and IBM, have pulled their ads from the platform.
The advertisers’ exodus is a major blow to X, which relies heavily on advertising revenue. In the first quarter of 2023, X generated $2.25 billion in advertising revenue, accounting for over 70% of the company’s total revenue.

In her memo, Yaccarino acknowledged that X has “more work to do” to combat hate speech and misinformation. However, she said that the company is “committed to making progress” and that it will “continue to invest in the tools and resources” needed to do so.

“We know that this is a complex issue,” Yaccarino wrote. “But we’re committed to making progress, and we’re going to show you how.”
